The Rev. Jesús Reyes

INTERIM PRIEST

Fr. Reyes retired March 31, 2024. He will be our Interim Priest while we search for a new Rector.
Father Reyes comes to us from La Iglesia de Santa Maria in the Diocese of Virginia, a church he planted in 2004. For 10 years prior, he did Social Work in the Alexandria, VA area. 

Previously, Canon Reyes was a missionary in the Roman Catholic Church. He worked in the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico, ministering six Zapoteco communities. He also did missionary work in Brazil, where he lived for about five years. Canon Reyes has served the Episcopal Church as a member of the Presiding Bishop’s Strategic Cabinet on the Jesus Movement and Evangelism; served as member of the Latino/Hispanic Council of Advice; was a member of the Disciplinary Board for Bishops; and the Team Leader of the Spanish CREDO Team. He continues to work with the Way of Love Working Group and is a member of the grant readers team supporting the work of The Episcopal Church’s Task Force on Church Planting and Congregational Redevelopment. 

The Rev. Lynette Poulton Kamakura

DEACON

Lynette Poulton Kamakura was ordained a Deacon on October 7, 2023, and was assigned by our Bishop to serve here at St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas. 
A retired Foreign Service Officer, Lynette has spent many years living and working overseas, giving her a passion for immigrant and refugee issues. She is also an experienced negotiator and mediator, bringing these skills to her diaconal work in community reconciliation.

Lynette loves languages, and can converse in English, Spanish, French and Russian.
She is married to Yasuhiko Kamakura, a lawyer with the International Labor Office.

Staff

Jordan Nylander

Music director

Jordan joined St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas in September 2023. Along with Willy Silva, our bilingual music team program a mix of traditional, familiar and new music for our bilingual services and special occasions, such as dia de los muertos and the Christmas Eve pageant. Music for the 10 am service is led with choral, congregational singling, and instruments. The 1 pm Spanish service music is led with voice, guitar and keyboard. There is a place for all musicians in the music ministry. Parishioners are welcome to join our choir or handbell choir. Our music program also includes Jazz Vespers and special concerts throughout the year.

Susan Dale

Sunday School Director

A member since 1987, Susan is trained in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and Godly Play, the latter being the curriculum being taught at St Luke’s ~ San Lucas. She also directs the Creation Camp Summer Program. Her highest priority is to ensure families and children know they are valued, loved and included in our church community.

Kris Vanberg

Office Manager

Kris became our office manager in May 2024. She has been a member and co-parish administrator for many years at Ascension Episcopal Parish in Portland. Her job at St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas has many facets, including print and digital communications, bulletins, scheduling, and special projects. She enjoys being a liaison to our clergy, staff, parishioners, volunteers, and the public.

Janet Butler

Asst Treasurer

Janet and her husband arrived in Vancouver in April of 2008 from Watsonville, CA.  Janet says this seemed like a good place to spend their retirement. They came for Easter service in 2009, fell in love with the Church and people, and have been here ever since.
She was offered the job as Assistant Treasurer in 2011 when Muriel McNamara retired. Her job is to manage the financial activities of the parish, including income and revenue, expenses and distributions, payroll, and taxes. She also ensures that the parish’s financial operations are in accordance with national and diocesan canons, the parish by-laws, and state and federal laws. Janet keeps track of all deposits and withdrawals to the parish bank accounts, and ensures alignment to parish budget documents.

Kathy Gallaher

Co-Senior Warden

Kathy has been a member since 2011. Having spent many years working in a health care setting, her organizational and consensus building skills are truly an asset in her role as Senior Warden. Kathy says knowing how to be a good, empathetic listener is one of the secrets to her success. 

Don Lawry

Co-Senior Warden

Don has been a member since the early ’90s, and during that time has served on the vestry three times, served as a lay reader/eucharistic minister, and served as a youth group leader.  His education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Education and a Master’s in Counseling Psychology. He currently works in area schools with disadvantaged youth and families. He and his wife, Junelle, first met at St Luke’s and were married at a Sunday morning service in 2004.

Riversong Scott

Junior warden

Since coming to St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas in 2022, Riversong has signed up to be a lay eucharistic minister and volunteered at the health fair. Previously, she served as a junior warden at an Episcopal church in Idaho. A nurse in professional life, Riversong brings time management, empathy and interpersonal skills to the vestry. 

Ken Dale

Treasurer

Ken Dale keeps an eagle eye on the financials, carefully monitoring income and spending so that St. Luke’s ~ San Lucas is able to fulfill its mission.

Greg Sabin

Pastoral Care

Greg has attended St Luke’s ~ San Lucas for the past seven years. He has served on the Pastoral Care Committee for 6 years and he also assists with Meal Makers and the Hospitality Committee. Greg has Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and a Master’s in Nursing with a focus on population based health. He is a retired nursing administrator, and he has a strong belief in the power and importance of building and sustaining a caring community. 

Marjorie Burgher

outreach liaison

Marjorie has attended church with her parents for the last 25 years. She became an official member last year. Her sister, mom and Marjorie have attended every Sunday since the church reopened to in-person services after the pandemic. Before retirement, she worked for a manufacturing company. Marjorie brings enthusiasm and determination to the vestry.

Hannah Femling

Music & Liturgy

Hannah is a member of the choir and the hand chimes choir, and is a captivating soloist, as a singer, oboist and English horn player. She grew up in the church, was in choristers, youth group, and was an acolyte captain. She works as a software engineer and brings a youthful perspective to the vestry.
